This project was exhibited live in 400sn (similar to the pecha kucha Istanbul), an event organized by difuzyon. Pre-composed music was split into 8 different channels and mapped on to 8 different objects. These objects reacted to changes by exhibiting cyclic behaviors.

Poetic Space

The aim of Poetic Space was to explore possibilities of a 3d environment which is based on data/information. Using different mapping methods different types of data or information is mapped on 3d objects using MAXScript. As a result, spatial, architectural, educational, informative characteristics, attributes or other potentials of an information/informative space are observed and different types of representation methods are compared..

A poem was used to generate a 3d form sphere according to the semantic properties of the words in it and according to the similar meanings that are predefined. An spline represents the original flow of the poem.

Clone Solids

Basic primitives were distorted and animated using a generative algorithm. On each loop, another layer was added on the existing one.


"Experimental generator” (XpGEN) is a MAXScript plug-in that allows user to interact with computer for experimental, intuitive and inspirational assistance during the beginning of the architectural and basic design phase by randomly generating multiple design alternatives according to the limitations of the user.

The tool was used in various studios and workshops in the ITU Faculty of Architecture and professional multimedia and graphic projects in ITU New Media Laboratory as well. In these experiments, it has been observed that; the tool supported the object and the structure creation process in digital environment also gave opportu-nity to try and evaluate variety of design alterna-tives. It is also observed that tool has increased the students’ capacity to visualize abstract 3D symbolic structures as well as modification of dig-ital objects. Consequently, complexity of digital 3D structures became a clear entity and easy to understood. Animating the generation and including “time” as a parameter of the design process made the process more attractive and more effective. The plug-in has motivated them to develop interesting concepts, expressing themselves and combining different types of media.


In this project, a 3d violin is randomly sliced and its shadows are rendered.
